GWA is looking for an experienced Transport Controller (casual position) to join our team based at Dry Creek.
Genesee & Wyoming Australia (GWA) is a progressive and established rail owner and operator in South Australia, New South Wales and the Northern Territory with over 600 employees. GWA owns and operates the 2,200km Tarcoola to Darwin railroad, and operates on a number of New South Wales and regional South Australian railroads servicing bulk minerals and agricultural customers. GWA is 51% owned by G&W Inc., a New York Stock Exchange listed entity (NYSE: GWR) and 49% owned by a consortium of funds and clients managed by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets.
A Transport Controller’s primary responsibility is to ensure the safe separation of all activities that occur on, or adjacent to the track on the GWA rail network which includes the Tarcoola to Darwin railway and regional railways on the Eyre Peninsula and Murray Lands in South Australia. This position is also responsible for a number of activities associated with train running including, train consist preparation, RAMS input and shift reports.

The GWA rail network operates under Train Order Working and the role of Transport Controller is a critical component in our efforts to ensure a safe operating environment. You must have a high regard for safety and a willingness to actively manage rail movements on the network to achieve safe outcomes. You will be required to respond swiftly to emergencies and other irregularities, liaise with regulatory agencies as required and provide timely and accurate reports. You will have constant contact with GWA employees (typically Locomotive Drivers and Track Maintainers), so it is essential that you are decisive and capable of issuing clear instructions. As a critical member of the network team you must also be able to build trust and develop a strong rapport with network users. Good communications skills and a considered approach to decision making are essential. Your ability to accurately record and analyse data will also be highly valued. Although you must be willing to work a 24/7 roster, this roster is well structured with consecutive days off.
The successful candidate will be given the necessary training to be successful in this role.
To be successful you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in the same or similar role, especially with regard to TOW
- Strong commitment to safety and proven ability to actively apply safety management principles
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent time management and strong decision making skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to multi task and interpret, process and analyse data
