About Us

One Rail Australia Pty Ltd (ORA), (Formally Genesee & Wyoming Australia) is a progressive and established rail owner and operator in South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory with over 600 staff. Within Australia ORA owns and operates the 2,200km Tarcoola to Darwin railroad as well as a number of New South Wales and regional South Australian railroads servicing bulk minerals and agricultural customers.

 

About the Role

Based in Kilburn, the Technical Trainer will be responsible for providing accredited and non-accredited training and assessment services in support of the competency development and maintenance of train crews, other employees, and contractors required to conduct heavy haul train driving tasks in accordance with organisational and Industry standards.

  • Deliver technical and non-technical training and assessment services to all One Rail Australia employees as required.
  • Conduct on-going recertification assessments of train crew members as required.
  • Provide support in the in-field instruction and coaching of rail operations trainees.
  • Abide by all departmental document control and index referencing requirements.
  • Assist in the design, development, evaluation, and review of accredited and non-accredited competency-based training programs.
  • Utilise the organisation’s training resources provided to enhance learning and skill development.
  • Support innovation and change in the design and development of new programs and delivery methods and modes.
  • Enter assessment results data and maintain training and assessment records using the organisational training records database if and as required.
  • Attend internal and external assessment validation and moderation activities as required.
  • Assist with incident investigations by providing guidance as appropriate to level of competence and experience as required.
  • Report to the Training Coordinator any compliance or quality concerns unearthed during the course of the execution of duties and assist in rectifying as required.
  • Provide support in the development of Job Competency Profile (JCP) content for job roles applicable to area of expertise.
  • Contribute to own professional development and industry release for the maintenance of competency in all areas required of job role.
  • Contribute to State/Territory and Federal rail industry training Initiatives as directed by the Operations Training Manager

About You

In addition to having extensive experience in a similar role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated commitment to One Rail Australia’s Core Values.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the Australian freight rail industry in the capacity of a qualified locomotive driver with extensive route knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to develop internal and external relationships quickly.
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent or working towards attainment.
  • Certificate IV in Train Driving or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a qualified workplace trainer and assessor.
